WHO WE ARE

We’re a client-centered construction company with deep roots in North Texas.

OUR APPROACH

SMCC prides itself on bringing a client-centered approach to every project. We will work with you on design options and product selections to bring your vision, not ours, to life.

Though we happily build new houses, our true passion is renovation. Remodeling existing homes is never dull. Whether it’s the challenge of making an add-on look like part of the original structure, unearthing unexpected or even unsafe issues behind the walls of older homes, or taking over a project when the client parted ways with another contractor, SMCC loves working with you to accomplish your goals for your home and add value to one of your biggest investments.

Many of our clients are our friends. Some were friends before construction began, and we remain friends after the projects. Others became friends after meeting us on the job. Construction work is rarely without bumps, but we work through any issues in partnership with clients to ensure that everyone is satisfied. We stand behind our warranty and our work, and we routinely perform new work for previous clients. As one of our clients said, “We keep hiring them because I know they will stand by their work. If there is a problem, we don’t have to worry because we know it will be taken care of.” Most of our business comes from referrals because we place a premium on client satisfaction.

We also have long-term relationships with a team of subcontractors. Our relationships with these tradespeople ensure high-quality, consistent work from job to job. Like our clients, our subcontractors trust us to communicate well and act with integrity.

Shawn & Justin at Teague Lumber

SHAWN M. COWDIN

CR, President

Shawn has been in the construction business in Fort Worth for 35+ years. He started framing houses even before graduating from Paschal High School, eventually starting his own framing company at the age of 20. Shawn moved into general contracting in 2006. Framers have to understand houses from the perspective of every trade, so Shawn’s background gives him both breadth and depth of construction expertise. He loves the variety and challenge of remodeling homes and counts himself lucky to have found lifelong work in a field he is passionate about. Shawn is an elected board member of the North Texas chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), through which he earned his Certified Remodeler (CR) designation.

JUSTIN P. COWDIN

Senior Project Manager

Justin has been working in construction since 1988. Justin began his career working with his brother Shawn as a framer. He worked as a framing contractor and trim carpenter for 30 years before joining SMCC as a project manager in 2018. Though he is a true artisan with a beautiful carpentry portfolio, Justin’s extensive construction knowledge and love of people made the transition to project manager a natural one. He and Shawn work seamlessly as a team to ensure projects are executed to the highest standards.

TRAVIS LAMINACK

Project Development

Travis has over 10 years’ experience in the home building and remodeling industry, working as an estimator, project manager and contributing to in-house design work. His experience has an emphasis on high-performance building techniques, as well as Universal Design and Aging in Place.  Travis loves the outdoors, birding, spoon carving and spending time with his wife Heather, their two children, Wyatt and Knox, and their rescue dogs, Stormy and Zelda.

SELINA E. DAVIS

GENERAL Manager

Selina first began working with Shawn as bookkeeper and office assistant in 2007 while attending Weatherford College. After furthering her education with Ashford University (B.A., communications), Selina resumed working with SMCC in 2018. A native of Garner, Texas, Selina loves spending time outdoors with her daughter, Lilliana, and dog, Shinerbock.

Mark Greene

PROJECT MANAGEMENT/SALES

Mark has construction in his blood. As someone raised in Fort Worth by a professional engineer who was also a woodworker and boat builder, he set and pulled his first post-tension foundation cables in 1975. After a tour in the Army, he enrolled in college but continued honing his construction skills with stints in structural and specialty metals, commercial drywall, and general contracting. Despite earning his BA in journalism and PR, he could never settle into the coat & tie lifestyle and ended up spending the bulk of his career as a general contractor doing commercial and residential new construction and remodeling. His intended pre-retirement phase of insurance adjusting, home inspecting, and government estimating was cut short when Shawn talked him into returning to what he does best – managing projects to turn homeowners’ dreams into realities.
